MAC Rules to Make Bouldering Safer

  • Jumping and falling off the bouldering wall, whether controlled or not may result in a serious injury. You are strongly advised to climb down and step off the wall.

  • Before starting a climb, ensure that you plan where you will be able to perform a controlled descent. If you feel a controlled descent is not possible, do not attempt the climb.

  • Never walk or climb underneath anyone who is bouldering.

  • Never tamper with or move any of the holds. Be aware that holds may spin. You must report any loose holds to a member of staff immediately.

  • Please ensure you are wearing suitable footwear such as climbing shoes or trainers. Stiffened walking/climbing boots that cover the ankle are not considered suitable as they can cause injury to yourself or others.

  • Suitable clothing must be worn. Hoodies and clothing with toggles may not be worn. Long hair should be tied back and any loose items and jewellery removed.

  • Do not climb on top of the traversing wall or hold onto the top of the wall.

  • Do not climb or use the suspended ceiling for leverage.

  • Use of upper body equipment is restricted to those who are able to reach the lowest holds without assistance.  Use of the walls for leverage is prohibited.

  • When choosing a route to climb, always give way to those already on a climb.

  • Keep the matting clear at all times. Objects left lying around can cause or exacerbate incidents.

  • No running or jumping whilst within the centre.

  • No food or drinks to be taken onto the climbing mats.
